Open Day!

We woke the camp up with a song, Pink Fluffy Unicorns, playing it in every room and doing a little happy dance.  You could feel the excitement because it wasn´t just any morning, it was the morning of our Open Day! All the delegations had been practicing all week for the Open Day Show and as Activity 1 we had a run-through.  Otherwise the morning was spent cleaning, packing for Host Family stays and preparing the tables on which the delegations could showcase their country and give out some treats and brochures. We also took our camp pictures!

Guests started coming in a little bit before 3 p.m. The Staff and JCs welcomed the guests and delegations were by their tables presenting their countries. We were so happy to see how many people came to visit our Village!

At 3.30 started our show! All delegations were called in with the “Sugar, Sugar” energizer and the audience was singing along with us. Then every delegation and the JCs had a chance to present their country to our guests. All the performances were amazing and the atmosphere in the Auditorium was great! The audience loved us and we were so proud of the way the participants showcased their countries. We heard so many praising comments on the show afterwards! After the show, the delegations went back to their tables and the guests could still go around and meet the kids and also get some coffee, tea and little sweet treats baked by our chapter’s volunteers. To wrap up our Open Day we did a huge Pony Song with all our guests, it was so much fun!  Then we lowered the flag and sang the CISV song. After that it was time to send the participants off to their host families.

The whole day went by so fast and it was a lot of fun and moments of joy and fulfillment. The Open Day was a success! It was amazing to be able to show a glimpse of our camp to the people who came to visit us. A lot of well deserved thank yous went out and it was great to see so many people coming together  to visit our camp.

Thank you!

JC Day!

Today we had the JC day! Everything was backwards so we started with saying good night and then we had flag down and lullabies.  JC's ran around backwards and had their clothes inside out.  We started meals with "Kiitos" which is usually sung after eating.

First activity was JC national night which consisted of a presentation on "JC-Land" which detailed the magical land.

We also did a skit and played a fun game called Tarzan, Gentleman, Knight. The second activity, we did an activity called lifeboat. We were divided into boats and given different characters. We had to act as these characters and argue for why we shouldn't be kicked off the boat. It was really interesting to hear other people's perspectives. The game developed into a more general discussion about judging people by first impressions. Third activity was trading market where everyone had clothes and other items from their countries and walked around looking at each others things. Eventually we all got something nice from other countries.

For the evening activity we went to the gym and had our own space to lie down. We calmed down with music and before going to bed and then ended the day by saying good morning.

"Toivottavasti lapsilla oli hauska päivä, meillä ainakin oli!!" - Elina
"JC diena praejo puikiai, mes visi ja megavomes"-Monika
"We had a great day today full of wonder (and confusion)" -Maia
"Hoje o dia foi intenso e ótimo" -Pedro
"Pink fluffy unicorns danced on rainbows the entire day, spreading happiness and joy!" -Rossy <3

July 11th!

Today we were the delegation of the day and we woke everyone up by the sound of chirping birds and shouting "magandang umaga". It means "good morning" in Filipino. We had flag up then we proceeded to the dining hall and had a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we went to our cleaning groups. We had different groups so we cleaned different areas. For the morning activity, we drew our country and its borders. Each delegation had their own paper. We went around describing other countries and what we thought about each of the countries.

For lunch, we had scrumptious fish soup. Quiet time! We had siesta/JC shop. In the afternoon activity, we presented the things written about the countries and discussed how we should treat other countries. In our group, we agreed that we should always try to be positive and nice to others. We also learned how to
share our opinion when it comes to thinking about other countries and people. We should know more before we form our ideas about them.

Dinner time! Again we had a really good meal. It was penne PASTA! The evening activity was Italian National Night! We danced a really cool dance. We played table soccer and had a quiz about Italy. NUTELLA Time!
We had a heavenly snack of Nutella with bread. We did flag down. Then we had lullabies. We sang Yellow Submarine, Country Roads, Puff the Magic Dragon, and "Nuka's song". Then lights out. Magandang gabi!

Kinanta namin ang yellow submarine, county roads, puff the magic dragon,at 'Nuka's song'. Kami ay natulog tapos pinatay ang ilaw. Magandang gabi!

Finland Day!

Hi everybody,
On the 10th we were the delegation of the day. That's why we wrote the blog entry for excursion day! Yesterday we had the excursion day, we got to sleep half an hour more than usual. But when we had to wake up everybody, most of the kids had already been awake.

During the excursion we went in our delegations in a Finnish forest. It felt like it was in Norway, except everything was flat...

The JC Pedro said it is going to be a long walk, but it was only 1,5 km. It was a bit rainy, while we were walking. When we arrived at the camp fire we were barbequeing sausages, cheese sandwiches and we got grilled marshmallows with cookies.
There were plenty of blueberries on the way, so we collected them and ate them together with the other food.

Our bus had two floors, it was much fun! After we went back to the bus, we drove to a beach at a lake. Beside the beach was a cafe, where we bought ice cream.

We went swimming ... Some thought it was cold, others thought it was very cold.

Afterwards we took the bus back to the campsite and had shower time. Something was wrong with the showers, so the water was freezing.

Then we had the Finnish national night. They had a quiz and ´letkajenkka´. Then came Santa and gave everybody an Angry bird T-shirt, because Angry Birds are Finnish.

Polar Bears and Penguins on TV!

We had a reporter and a cameraman from YLE, a national TV channel here in Finland, visiting our camp yesterday and today a story of our camp appeared in the news twice on national television!

The piece is also on the internet (starts around 9:55) but it might not be visible in all countries.

Captain says yey!

Hi!
On the 9th July we, the Italian delegation, were the D.O.D. ( delegation of the day) and we woke up the others screaming "BUON GIORNO!" (= good morning) and with a Pavarotti´s song.During the first activity we played "Card Game". Everyone is seating in a circle and has a sign from the play cards (hearts, spades, clubs or diamonds), you can move on the seat to your right only when a card with your sign is extracted from the deck.. If somebody is seating on you, you can not move. The winner is who can make a round and seat again on his/her own chair. The second game was " Captain says" and you should do what the "captain" said. If you do something wrong, you´re out of the game.In the afternoon we had a "Human Rights Rally": divided in 5 teams, we should go to different station holding our hands and we had some tasks to do about human rights ( e.g. expression, own opinion, peace, have a family, etc...)

In the evening there was the Norwegians National Night: they recited a Norwegians story, we saw videos about Norway and the Northern Lights and we ate chocolate and brown cheese. It was a great day!

See you soon!

Ciao!

A presto

Song, Cinderella and Costa Rica!

8th of July saw a lot of enthusiasm in the village right from the flag up time as it was a more than usual day.It was Gabriel´s birthday, everyone made him feel special by wishing him even before the flagup and later in the day they all were served icecream by the staff.

Children enjoyed the days activities as they were a blend of some brianstorming and fun too. They learnt more about the CISV song through the first activity which was to interpret the lyrics of the song in their own way so they understand the meaning of the song and sing it with more respect from then.

Various versions of the Cindrella story in the second activity brought out their talent further when the presented a small skech of the versions assigned to them. Watching them perform in different groups was a treat to eyes n souls.

The day ended with Costa Rica´s National Night where the entire village ended up dancing n enjoying to the Costa Rican music.

It was truely a day of fun and learning........

Hope to see more of such days

Sunday the 7th

Today we woke up at 7 o’clock and woke the others up at 8:00, by singing “Nanook-Ingerlaliinnaleqaagut”, a Greenlandic song. 8:30 started the flag time before we ate breakfast. We had breakfast and everyone cleaned the whole camp with their group.

After that Activity 1 started with an energizer “I’m singing in the rain”, “I have a mango” - then the kids were divided in 6 groups, so they can make their own fantasy land with a big white paper. The kids presented their fantasy land at 11 o’clock, and then they had a 30 minutes free time during which the kids were playing soccer, drawing, relaxing and enjoying the sun.or playing at the playground.

At 12:00, lunch. We ate chicken with rice and vegetables. 13:00 Siesta, is where the kids stayed inside and relax with the siesta angels. Today, all the delegations guessed that the populations in Greenland are millions of people, but there are only about 57.000 people who live in Greenland, and only about 16.000 in Nuuk.

At 14:00 it was time of Activity 2. Activity 2 happened outside our school building, where we started with an energizer before we played hospital, where the kids were divided in two groups, virus and costumes. Then there was a paper dance inside the gym, shower time/leaders meeting at 16:00-17:00. After dinner and delegation time, Philippines have a national night and we had so much fun, that we were late for our flag time and bedtime. Nice day!

Fun and games and secret friends!

Hey!
We decided to wake up the participants with the German song "Guten Morgen, Sonnenschein". After Flagtime and breakfast, we went outside for the first activities and played different games in smaller groups.

At first we played "Tasks in mute" where the kids had to form a line according to different categorizations, for example their height, haircolour, birthday. In another game the kids got the task to stay in a group on a blanket and try to turn it over without leaving it. Every group was succesful and the kids worked together very well. In the second activity, during the afternoon, we played "smugglers and customs" outside. We had a lot of fun.

After that we went to the arts and crafts room and designed envelops for a special game called "Monito". Every participant (including all adults and kids) drew a piece of paper where the name of another partcipant was written - this is the persons Monito, a secret friend. We put the envelopes on lockers in the hall, so that everybody can give his/her Monito a little gift every day. We decided to play the game for six days, until the Open Day.

After dinner we went to the auditorium for the Polish National Night. The Polish delegation wore pretty traditional clothes, showed a short video about their country, sang a traditional song and made a quiz. They offered caramel candy, gave everybody a scrapbook and selfmade keychains. We enjoyed the snacktime, where we ate "barszcz", a Polish soup.

We´re exited about the monito game and all the activities to come and had another awesome day.

The German Delegation

--------------------------------------------

Hallo!
